This is part 2 of 6 tutorials that show you the viewer, how to properly use the cloth modifier in 3DS Max 2009. I will show you the steps from beginning to end. Everything necessary to duplicate my flag animation.

A CLOTH TEST TURNED TUTORIAL:
This test still works with dynamic forces such as wind, gravity or whatever though it is NOT reactor based. It is far easier to work with a cloth modifier rather than a reactor based cloth simulation.

THIS TUTORIAL WILL COVER:
Editable Poly Modifier
Basic Polygonal Modeling
Cloth Modifier
Mesh Smooth Modifier
Shell Modifier
Unwrap UVW Map Modifier
Camera Shake (Curve Editor, Noise Float)
Texture Mapping

SOFTWARE:
3DS Max 2009
Adobe Photo Shop
Camtasia Studio

  • what was wrong and what was the solution?

  • Nice - but my wind didn't grab the flag, it just fell to the bottom again as usual (2)

i cant grab the wind the flag... i dont know why but i do step by step and... dont work...

    with max 2009

  • Hmm, I don't know what to tell you my friend. This seems to be one of those situations where I'd have to sit down at your PC to trouble shoot. I'm sorry I can't help beyond the video. I mean, it worked on mine and others as well, the video proves it. Apologies my friend.

  • thanks dude, I dunno why some people had problems following, I thought the pace and direction was perfect.

  • thanks a lot man u help me for cloth simulation

  • I have the problem most people had.

The wind doesn't reacts with the cloth :(

  • thnx man thats great help there:D

  • argh i got it man, gotta tick "collision object" yo

    my bad

you should make a tutorial on cloth deformation like for a car (or tank) on collision, that'd be cool

    peace

  • naaah man i just found it funny with the deep cigarette toke lol

it worked out perfectly i'm adjusting stuff now

also do you know how to make the cloth not collide with a wall for example? i have it hanging on two sticks in front of a wall, like a cloth banner, but it goes through the wall. I tried adding the wall to the cloth objects and making it inactive, but that didn't help.

sorry man just a quick question like that.

  • Thanks man... I'll try o acquire the save thing you use.

  • dam... that so strange... dont work with any change in wind... but if i set 90000000 hehe at all wind options the flag shakes... very ugly... but shakes lol
