Around here community college is around $110 a credit where as state school (and other local colleges) last I looked was $500 a credit.

College costs are out of control. 70% of staff is not involved with teaching. Sports facilities are not justified. Ten year'ed teachers are WAKO overhead. Tax payers should demand to control balance sheets of colleges !!!!!! This a runaway train and the new generation will be the victim of this Bubble of greed

@prepschoolkid People live paycheck to paycheck because we've been conditioned to think we're losers if we don't keep up an unsustainable lifestyle. If you grew up in a house bigger than 500 square feet and ate better than beans and rice everyday then you were living in excess. Now everyone needs their own room, bathroom, cell phone, car, computer, and the family needs an office, den, dining room, the storage room for all the impulse buys . . .

Steve's an idiot. Why does he talk about these historically under privileged students borrowing the bare minimum and then talking about $50k and $27k tuition? You can spend less than that in all four years split between community college and a state school. If these under privileged kids are supporting these overpriced schools then they should blame their own stupidity.

You're pretty much screwed if you're middle class. On paper it looks like my family is doing pretty well (combined my parents make six figures), but only because they work so much overtime. Many middle class families are basically living paycheck to paycheck and then colleges expect them to ay those ridiculous prices?

CNN actually gets it somewhat right, college tuition is going up because of state cuts to make up the difference although the guy overplayed the relatively small increases in total college spending.
