Im surprised there arent a dozen comments on here about puffing your cheeks. I puff my cheeks, there is no difference it just lets me play louder.

@thomastimothy4God Really? That's news to me because the judges tapes said "Good foundation from tubas" So I don't think they have a problem with it. And I can play a C above the staff so I'm pretty sure my range has been unaffected.

@MrGuitar144 louder just make you sound bad. you cant hit higher notes because you arent focusing you air and you end up looking really bad in frount of judges.

cheek puff alert WARNING WARNING!!!

You should use an actual metal mouthpiece. It sounds less airy and thin that way

tip dont puff ur cheeks

@MastodonRockss Yeah, I've always made it a point to still keep a good sound.

Well, typically it's a bad habit that can have a detrimental effect on the overall sound, but some players get by just fine by puffing their cheeks. As long as you're making a good sound, it doesn't matter.
How is the slide and do you have to dress it at all??

@reesetee1 The slide is smooth and I have never had to put any lubricant on it. It's a little noisy though.
