GT was always going to happen, Akira just wanted to move on not for it to end.

I don't like GT one bit, and it has a lot of continuity errors, but that doesn't change the facts.

@Cridant1 Actually, you've got it backwards: it was introduced to Toriama by his writing team. It was a fanfiction project and nothing more. Akira's fans kept crying for a continuation to the Dragonball Series, and he used the GT story as a sort of cop out. He was done working on Dragonball. The series had ended. GT was produced to pacify the fans.
