The metal rod will corrode over time. I used 3/4" PVC for my pump's shaft. Google the following for detailed plans. "How to Make The Ghost Shrimp Pump Ghost Shrimp - Live Bait Pump - Slurp Gun "

@anthemlost Thanks for the comment. Ya, I did actually end up using a zorie thong cut into a perfect donut for the seal because the rubber that comes with the pipe plug was too hard and didn't make a good seal.

@anhthai999 Thanks for the offer, but I have a baby on the way any day now so I don't have time to make you one. I did notice they had a similar pump for sale at Home Depot in the PVC pipe section. I think it was about $20. There are also places online that will sell you one.

i still don't understand the crevice on the wide handle and the zip tide stop mechanism.

@123actcn To make the stop, drill a hole through the steel tubing, then push a zip tie or two through the hole, wrap them around the tubing, and zip them down. You could also put a bolt and nut through the hole. The hole is drilled at the correct length along the steel tubing so that when you pull the handle all the way back, the zip tie hits the black end cap and keeps the piston from hitting the crevice in the big handle.
