A Discovery Channel episode featuring myself showcasing some different types of electromagnetic accelerators and how they work... BTW "Plasmaboy" was the director's idea, not mine. For more information be sure to check out: http://www.powerlabs.org
Their is actually a railgun that is really easy to make. All you need is a coat hanger, to rare earth disc magnets, a 9v battery, and aluminum. Its really really week, but it is really really week... So a railgun is easy to make, but once you go past that little setup it starts to get really complicated. People are still trying to figure out how to reduce rail erosion and friction, currently the two biggest problems with railguns.
that part is an elko ( electrolytic capacitor) but the one from a cammera is much too small for a rail gun. but it might just be suficient for a small coilgun ( just look it up on wiki)
i did hear from someone that a certain part within a camera could be used.... the one that engages the flash..... somehow it could be used to release the amount of electricity needed instantly... think it might work?
weell you could do that but why would you do that ( you can just use the wall socket) and for the capacitors ... just use waht ever ellkos you can get cheap. if you have multiple choices go for lower resistance.
well your not thinking in quiet the right dimensions. more like hughe low resitance capacitors....and i dont know about your steel but it might just work (im no expert) also you will need a way to accelerate the projectile into the rails (like a potato canon or something)
best way i see to do it is to search ebay for cheep elko bulk offers and than get a microwave transformers to charge them the rest is just about the rail
Omg Superman!!! I rode that ride yesterday! :D

hmm.... is it possible to charge a capacitor with the car batteries? (im kind of a science n00b xD)
And what type of capacitor would you recommend?
