AgCl is practically insoluble in thinned acids and you have a fair amount of Ag+ ions in solution. Of course you shouldn't wait too long for the whole process, but once you have rinsed the AgCl in the filter it's quite stable.

When I did this argentometric analysis, I was well within the 2 % error, actually my result was only 0.1 mg off. Let me assure you, once you have followed the steps and understood why you are doing them, analytic chemistry is very satisfying. :D

  • It's nice to see education vids like that on the inet.

I'm also in the quantitative lab in second semester now in Germany.

But there is one thing that I didn't quite get:

When Cl- is protonized it can be cooked off when turning the heat on. And also if there is some elementary silver and Cl- bonds with H+ in the acid it can fly off... so my question is: Is this method so exact that you don't have more than +-1%?

It would be very nice to hear. Greetz

  • Hello Alice, you are beutifull! I enjoy this video and learn a lot from it! thank's
