Thirty years on from the country's last -- and most brutal -- military coup, TURKEY is facing up to its past.

More then 17 thousand extrajudicial killings. More than one thousand five hundred people still missing.

The military granted themselves immunity from prosecution.

One of the proposed constitutional amendments going to referendum on Sunday, lifts that protection.

A survey in Turkey shows that nearly 6 out of every 10 voters will back constitutional changes proposed by the government.

However the poll also showed that a good number remain undecided.

Al Jazeera's Anita McNaught reports from Ankara.
