Nice classic Kenwood rig!

Wonder if the island fell outside of FCC bandplan jurisdiction, allowing the operators to fall back to the IARU Region 2 bandplan, which does allow phone operation at those frequencies. The callsign itself was issued as a special event station by a one of the five special callsign coordinators.

I think it's great having an op that speaks Japanese when working JA. In college we had a JA ham that liked talking back home in Japanese, he had BIG pileups! LOL.

Sadly, it started dying a slow death with it's audio being reduced to a whisper about 2 months after this video was posted. Now it's intermittently working. :X

What is making me scratch my head is how K5D is legally operating phone on 14.140. Desecheo is under FCC jurisdiction IIRC, so operating voice below 14.150 should be a no-no
