ABOUT FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE:

Background:
Islam is sometimes viewed as simply a list of inflexible prohibitions and permissions. This sadly does not reflect the way of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم who understood the needs and abilities of people around him, and whose teachings left a rich legacy for Muslims to explore.

Aim:
FNL Leicester was borne out of an ambition·to combat a general intellectual malaise of the faithful by inspiring intellectual and spiritual appreciation of Islam, which we aim to achieve though our uniquely formatted monthly programs.

Objectives:
The objectives are to foster intelligent discussion about fundamental aspects of Islam, to challenge misconceptions held by those whose understanding of Islam falls within two opposite extremes, to unify Muslim communities, to teach manners of disagreement and to bring about a positive permanent change in people's practice of their deen.

The slogan will invite local Muslims to "Be free to ask the questions you were always afraid to ask" - so providing a safe space for people to talk about issues that are important to them without prejudice.

Format:
The will feature a monthly theme which our panel will briefly address. There will then be extensive opportunities for discussions and questions on the theme of the week and any other subject.

The key difference between this and other similar Q&A style events is the make-up of the panellists. We will be uniting a panel of 3-4 scholars from different groups within the Sunni Muslim community. We expect that any disagreements that surface will be dealt with maturely by our experienced scholars.
