Our fourth trip down to Devon to see the Torbay Express, this time with yet another locomotive, BR Standard 8P 71000 Duke of Gloucester. This excursion was to co-inside with the Atlantic Coast Express, which also ran on this day but was fraught with problems.
We start off at Hookhills viaduct, just before the final climb to Churston. With the 8P slipping all the way to the top of the bank, we were anticipating a stall, however, that never happened, just a very slow ascent of Goodrington Bank.
We move onto Kingswear to see the shunting of the stock into the third platform. For the next few minutes, we see 71000 shunting the stock around. Unfortunately, I didn't get round to getting any detail shots of the Duke (which would've included the Caprotti valve gear).
Our final shot of the video comes from my old favourite, Langstone Rock at Dawlish. With much whistling, 71000 flies through to be greeted by the Atlantic Coast Express (running 120 minutes late) at Starcross.
The next video will be the ACE, to be uploaded on the 6th.

Thanks Geoff. I would've liked a bit more of the valve gear close up, but you can still see the rotary cams moving in the video, so I suppose the shots I took were still OK.
