Making Christmas 2008

Here is a time lapse of us assembling and decorating our first fake Christmas tree.

Lori and I both have always had real Christmas trees so this was a new experience for us both! With the addition of Dominic (and thanks to the HUGE discount at Lowes) to our family we decided to get a fake one for the next few years as our little one(s) grow(s) up. We plan on returning back to real trees once the baby(s) are more grown up.

The whole process took about an hour (compressed to about 2 minutes) for us to build and decorate the tree. It was an interesting experience with Dominic keeping himself entertained while we were able to decorate, then he got tired of playing on his own so Lori held him for the rest of the time.

I have to say I'm very impressed with the results / look of the fake tree it's always perfect and there's no mess / needles / water / drying out / fire hazard to worry about. I DO miss the smell of pine so as a joke / homage to our fake tree I hung a "Little Tree" car air freshener on the tree (which can be seen in the last 30 seconds of the video!

I had originally planned on shooting this video as stills with the DSLR but my camcorder tripod wasn't sturdy enough and I couldn't find (or wanted to buy) a clamp so I could've mounted the camera to the door frame. So instead I used my Canon HF10 to record the process. However, I forgot to lock the white balance and manual focus the cam!
TECH: Canon HF10, Cinemode 30p, FXP, WD-H37 wide lens, auto white balance (D'OH!) auto focus (Double D'OH), mounted on a cheap tripod (little shaky) Edited/sped up in Vegas Video Pro 8.0c. Rendered out at AVC (Main Concept) 9mbps/128kbps/44hz at 1280 x 720.
