Rescue of a Men's Novice 8 Rower ejected from the University of Rochester boat after a massive crab...this occurred during the Head of the Genesee on Sunday, Oct. 11. This poor stroke was ejected and started swimming for the shore after the current, wind & forward momentum moved his boat out of reach. He was quickly rescued by a sheriff's boat stationed nearby, which, after pulling him ashore, took off for the dock at full speed nearly swamping the boat in the process. Good job on the part of the coxswain who had to handle both the ejection and then quickly make some emergency maneuvers to keep his remaining 7 rowers in the boat!

This video has been posted not to cause continued embarrassment for the poor rower but for use in training of rescue launch operators....

  • I was the 7 seat in this boat, directly behind the rower who was ejected. He was fine - just a little shaken up and cold!
