SOLC101-02 Score Order

A fundamental model which should be followed in the preparation of an orchestral work it the presentation of the instruments in the musical score - that is called "score order". It is a term which stands at the underpinning of the operation of the orchestra library.

This is a description of the order of instruments in an orchestral score. this model should be followed by aspiring composers. It may also serve to answer some questions about what a conductors is looking at when he is conducting a concert.

I have also noted some exceptions as this model is not universally followed.

Many conductors happen to be female. Lots of references to "he."

It's rather cumbersome to always say, he/she or she/he and I'm not used to referring to conductors as 'it' although it fits in some cases.

Imagine being the conductor of the Prokofiev symphony and having to train your eye to look all over the page for a particular instrument line, which could be anywhere depending on which instruments were playing at the time!
