  • Is this a Scottish or Irish song?

  • @lookatmepleasesir Almost every Northern Irish person I know calls themselves Irish. You might want to talk to some of them and ask their own opinions on such matters. It's always better to go to the source and ask ;)

  • @CelticArgyll the important differences are the religion and political affiliations. The protestant Irish are the closest to Scottish culture, they migrated from Scotland 400 years ago and identify as Scots. Most of the Irish are catholic and it is the religion of the aboriginal Irish, and they very emphatically identify as NOT British whereas the Scots Irish always did, thats an important part of the troubles in Northern Ireland.

  • @mauranius Scottish and Irish culture don't differ as much as your are making it out to be.

  • @WestMcBride

Well, that was the old story from ancient legend, but research points to the Gaels/Scots living on the West Coast of Alba much earlier than was thought, (since prehistory in fact!). The place that was supposed to be invaded from Ireland, is called "Argyll", which means East-Gaels, and it may have been settled at the same time as Ireland was, by the Gaels.

The "Picts", were the natives of Alba, that the Romans named "Picti". We Irish called them, the "Cruithne".

  • @mauranius

For all our arguments, our music & culture is a common one! The only difference between a Ceili & and a Ceilidh, is how many Irish tunes & how many Scots tunes get played, and what we call the tunes, (that are identical anyway!). The dances are the same, with different names tho'!

Scots prefer the loud Great Highland Pipes to our quieter Uillean Pipes, but secretly, we love each other really, so long as we Irish get the credit!

  • Don't know whats she singing but don't need to. Its beautiful

  • @JEREMY99218 Scots were an Irish tribe to migrate to Alba (Scotland). The natives there were Celtic-Norse like you say. There's been some theories of what the Picts truly were but most assume just an early Celtic tribe to arrive before the Gauls/Britons.

  • @JeSuisUneLampe I think it's Scottish Gaelic.. she's from Scotland
