"When the Ship Comes In" is a folk music song by Bob Dylan, released on his third album, The Times They Are a-Changin', in 1964. Joan Baez states in the documentary film No Direction Home that the song was, more or less, inspired by a hotel clerk who refused to allow Dylan a room due to his "unwashed" appearance (he was not famous outside of the folk movement at this time). The song then grew into a sprawling epic allegory about vanquishing the oppressive "powers that be". Another inspiration was the Bertolt Brecht/Kurt Weill song, "Jenny the pirate's bride".

  • Not bad considering he couldn't speak a word of English before singing this song.

who the hell writes these kinds of comments? I actually want you to give me a reason why you decided to write this comment.

  • If you love Bob Dylan YOU MAY REALLY LIKE US.

(we're a band from Arlington, VIRGINIA) - our lead singer even kinda looks like Dylan!!

  • If I had a webcam I would. I mean honestly - what's the point in lpaying a song you don't know the chords to?

His voice is good, I'll give him that. But, the guitar playing is sub standard.

p.s You're really doing nothing for yourself, being so overtly offensive - it just makes you look a bit simple really.

  • @grimbalgrambal how about you post a vid....you dick

  • very good

  • Yes, very good job!

  • How many chords do you want to miss out?

Also, how many chords do you want to play wrong.

'I'll know my song well, before I start singing'......evidently not in this case.

    Give up!
