Watch with B.O.B Airplanes in the background pleaasse, the song actually starts after the bit of writing saying I'll never forget you you taught me so much, please watch it from there as timings are in it!
When your plans unravel in the sand what would you wish for if you had one chance?
Gosh that pony has changed so much
Basically
When I got him, I couldn't even touch him! I spent an hour trying to put my foot in the stirrup, then gave up and spent some time just trying to stroke him!
The second time I came to work with him, I spent 40 mins trying to get on and 10 mins walking under saddle before getting off.
The third time I spent 10 mins getting on and 40 mins just walking, with a small trot at the end.
His owner was so amazed from the first day that she asked if she could move him to my yard and send him to me for training.
I immediately said yes. She paid me £130 a month to ride him 3 times a week. Though I rode him everyday for her and didn't charge as we were bonding so well I loved him.
The first week we worked on just getting the saddle on and getting on as he was terrified of his saddle and people getting on.
He had been abused terribly in the past to the point of being branded unbreakable and was going to be put down.
The second week we rode in the schooling ring. Just walking, a bit of trot now and then, we kept it up for 2 weeks. Then we tried a canter, and as you can see from the vid he kept napping at the gate and trying to throw me over his shoulder.
He'd been terrified for so long it had become a vice to him, he acted afraid to get out of work, if you didn't keep contact he would bolt and that would be it.
After about 3 weeks, I was walinig him around the ride around as someone was in the arena, tried a small canter, 3 strides of beautiful canter, then BOLT!
Thats the first video you see of us galloping past! He was unstoppable I thought he was going to kill us in the barbed wire at the end.
We stayed away from the ride around and worked and worked on flatwork for a month or so, then I taught him to jump.
For a little pony who had never jumped with someone on him before, he was immense at it! You could see it was his true calling.
We started walking down the roads and then I hacked out with my aunt and her daughter with her little dales bobby.
We went for a canter and Ted tried to bolt but luckily bobby's huge butt meant Ted was going nowhere! :P
Finally, I felt confident on him and took him to the gallop strip along the golf course. I galloped him across the open field and dropped my reins and flung my arms into the air as he went as fast as he could before gathering up the reins and slowing him to the end.
There was a cross country course down the road for hire and I really wanted to take Ted, so I let my friend take Blade and took Ted myself.
Bearing in mind, not only had Ted never seen XC jumps before, but we were in a massive field and he had NEVER jumped out of an arena in a secure environment. I was bricking it.
No need, As you can see
HE WAS FRICKING AMAZING!!!!!!!! Didn't put a foot wrong leapt off a 3ft4 bank first time, he'd never jumped higher that 2ft6 but we did the smalls mediums and a few larges!!!!!! We did water jumps logs banks ditches derby's and spreads!
His owner cried when she saw the photos
I was Teddy's last hope. And you say I'm not a horse trainer ;) Teddy and B are my crowning achievements! We took Ted to a local show and did ridden classes with him, didn't bat an eyelid, even did clear round!
We were jumping one day in the arena when Ted had a hissy fit and actually bronced me across the arena after a jump until I came off. Was pretty fun he was so chuffed with himself. Never did it again.
We then took Beary to the Bluebells show down the road where his old trainer worked, he could not believe it was the same pony that threw him off into electric fencing!
We did clear round, 2ft3 and 2ft6, I was so worried I actually withdrew from the 2ft6 before the 2ft3, but when he whizzed round it only knocking 1 pole because I shaved a corner off! He tried so hard, so I re entered him and he was perfect, he was a bit doolally and all over the place but who cares he was showjumping for the 1st time, never seen fences like it before!!! He sadly ran out at the double because he had always hated doubles even in the arena at home.
That was the day before I left for college.
I was going to put Blade on full livery, get it for free through working for my yard owner, and have Teddy. But, I got into college, and couldn't just not get my qualifications. So I did the hardest thing ever and gave him back
He's now on loan to a family who do dressage, a 5 year old rides him and so does the mum!
I miss you Teddy Bear. I'll see you again someday
