  • @beowulflokison Things are a bit complicated when it comes to Shooto people but I'm quite sure that Aoki didn't have formal catch training. He is basically a collegiate judo player who later took up BJJ. As for his training with Eddie Bravo, he is not a 10th Planet exponent par excellence. He and Eddie shared some knowledge and Eddie trained him specifically in rubber guard variations.

  • small details make big differences

  • @MinotaJJ Well to say there is no catch wrestling is too strong, Aoki's main style is bjj undoubtedly but he must have trained in shooto at some point, yuki nakai himself was an accomplished grappler before he even started bjj, so there must be some catch wrestling influence, but as I say; he is a bjj beast.

  • @beowulflokison Aoki is a Yuki Nakai BJJ black belt and a Judo black belt. No Catch Wrestling here.

  • @2431346 There's videos of him training with Eddie Bravo too

  • @beowulflokison

yes, I will get you the video of sakuraba training him.

  • @2431346 Well anyone who says BJJ sucks knows nothing of real grappling, even Josh Barnett trains with BJJ guys. Like it or not Aoki's main style is BJJ, he has undoubtedly trained some CACC, hes in japan for christ's sake but from what I have seen most catch wrestlers bottom games are pretty weak. However Aoki has a fantastic bottom game and submits people with gogos and flying triangles, you don't see them in CACC. Also do you have a source on him being trained by sakuraba?

  • Cody Mckenzie does it the same way

  • are you saying sakuraba or shinya, because sakuraba is definitely not a judoka. not even close. I wouldn't consider aoki a catch wrestler either, i'd say he's pretty clean cut bjj.
