Should boys and girls be taught separately? "Separate Classrooms" followed the story of one middle school's accidental separate education experiment.
Some say separating children by gender allows both boys and girls to learn more and that it's no different than separating children by age. Others say it's the equivalent of racial segregation and is therefore unconstitutional.
We visited the Virginia middle school to hear what student's had to say about separate classrooms and find out if the experiment worked.

i moved to an all girls school in yr 9, people thought i was stupid, best thing i have ever done, although, i did move from a public school to an elite private school so there were extra advantages not availiable in public schools

Bad idea. Boys and girls need to learn how to mingle with eachother and work with each other properly, as when they are men and women, they will have to interact with each other on a daily basis.School is supposed to prepare you for the world,not keep you from it.

Most of schooltime is in class, so segregated. Also, habit-forming for sex segregation elsewhere and for offspring. Also, Moxon, S. 2008 points out, sexes stay seperate for majority of life, only mixing from 10 to 40 to any great extent, so bad news to segregate during mixing ages. Education of humans may not effect willingness to freely associate, as not currently educated TO freely associate. Sex segregation seems instinctual on part of females - so is infanticide, but society discourages!

Sex segregation causes aggression in humans (long known) but recently established 25 primate species have evolved brain capacity for aggression versus empathy in direct correlation to degree of sex segregation versus free association (New Scientist, 2007).
Females sex segregate preferring company of other females four times more than of men, who show no preference (civility for you), (Moxon, S. 2008 'The Woman Racket'). All the fascist regimes sex segregate. Efficient, yes, for war readiness

You fail to account the fact that they are not completely seperated as they were in the experiment. Boys and girls regularly see and interact with the opposite sex in the hallway, lunchtime, and afterschool. 2nd, there is a variable unaccounted for in the primate experiment which is Education. Socially, they primates were completely segregated but only by that variable. This therefore cannot be applied to the issue at hand. Increased test scores and overall success has been observed.

Sex segregation in humans cause physiological changes in the brain, increasing capacity for aggression and decreasing capacity for empathy.
It is females who choose the company of other females four times more than the company of other men. Men show no preference for male or female company.
Women need to challenge women, to end sex segregation.
