Damn, NYC was FUCKED UP back then! I'm born and raised in NYC, and my Dad and Grandpops are from Harlem and the Bronx. We moved to south Brooklyn in the late 60's when my bro was born 'cause of shit like this going down in Crown Heights. I went to high school in the crack-AIDS-homelessness late 80's and early 90's. It's so hard to explain to all these post-Giualiani new jacks what the city was like back then- that we feel like survivors from a war. They'll never understand.

@madcat0149 - many countries? you been to Philadelphia lately? Or how about Baltimore? NY might have gotten rid of the slumbs by "gentrifying"... but there are still some cities with neighborhoods boarded up with abandoned buildings.

@vidform - and the generation before that were saying the same thing too... reality is that most criminals use it as a badge of honor in poorer areas... it's not new.

The interviewed police force (4:11) were saying the same things that they are saying today. Some gang members don't care if they go to jail and boast about it. If we're not careful, we could be heading towards a "Mad Max" society.
