This is an attempt to show my playing method of long flutes. "Anasazi" flutes, as they are commonly known, Pueblo Flutes to me, are becoming more and more popular. They are made similar to ones that were found in Northeastern Arizona in 1931 by Earl H. Morris.
The one I am playing here is similar to ones that were found in Chaco Canyon, New Mexico. They ranged in length from 27 inches to 41 inches. The one I am playing is 35 1/4 inches and is made from Bamboo. The distance to the bottom hole from the blowing edge is 27 1/4". The fundamental is F (F3).
I hope that this video shows that anyone can play these flutes if you use this method. It's similar to the one used for playing Shakuhachi, except that the holes are kept in line even though they are long. I am 5ft 7in and can play these flutes easily. Beginners would have to get used to the Blowing technique and fingering technique. For more info. go to www.aluaki.com
