I definitely get along better with people with a worldview such as mine. I have lived in three countries, two continents. I can get along better with people (even though I'm in my 40's) who are either TCK's or, if they've been in the military, travelled a lot, etc. I cannot get along with people who have tunnel vision and have absolutely no understanding outside of their "box".

my mum is an archetypal tck, and she is married to a non-tck. My dad does have a few tck characteristics because he moved around since being with my mum.

i think this has worked really well for them because my dad loves her free-spirit but he provides her with stability and a home.

otherwise my mum would never put down roots :) xx

I think it would be a huge challenge for me to date a non-TCK. Because being a TCK is such a big part of who I am, and I really need to be understood by my future spouse, since I'm not fully understood by my friends now. I need someone who loves to travel. I'm at my best when I'm traveling, chaos and all, and my version of traveling isn't just going somewhere nice and staying at a resort; it's waking up one day and deciding to live with the locals in, say, Japan, for the next three months.

Im a TCK and i dated non-TCK's and TCK's.

Dating the non-TCK, was a little bit of a struggle. He's only lived in South Africa, and he couldnt understand my lifestyle. He also couldnt relate to half the stories i told him and it all ended up in a diaster. Where as, when i dated the TCK, we lasted for 3 years. We had similar interests, and since we both had travled and experienced the world a little. I could talk and relate to him on a much higher level than with the non-TCK. It was great!

I thought this was very funny, and typically TCK: "today I'm going to talk about relationships and it's not going to be long because I have to go very soon" - that says it all!

I've been married twice, once to a non-TCK which ended in disaster and now to a TCK which is the best relationship I've ever had. Like any marriage, we have to work hard but the common history, open mindedness, wanderlust...all works in our favor. We rediscovered each other at a high school reunion. My friendships with TCK's are also much stronger than those with non TCK's ~ there is a feeling of permanance with them no matter location, not so with non TCK's.

The non-TCKer can sometimes just not relate and it creates stress, and even a little resentment and distance between the couple that's for sure.

Brice you make a good point, we not only attract people 'like us' but we actually attract people and things that we think we deserve on an unconscious level depending on our likes/dislikes and self-esteem.
