These tracks are only a few years old. Look up the Victorian Fast Rail Project. The Ballarat line (in this video) was upgraded around 2005.

Last time I stood at this vantage point was late November 2005, about a week or two before the new line opened. The scene hasn't changed one bit! How many minutes extra does it take to get around the old line?

Geoff I haven't run a passenger train over that section for many years but I would expect a good two to three minutes if not more.

Is that Victorian wide guage or ANR/NSW standard guage? It looks too narrow to be wide guage on these videos. The trains sure look more safe than the ones we used to catch to school when I was a kid in Melbourne. The old Laverton train was smelly, old and unpredictable. Do they have electricity to Geelong yet? I haven't been back to Victoria for a very long time. No matter what they say, Victorian trains do have character...

didnt they build Bungaree Loop when trains started to get longer and such in the late 80s
Skyhawk501 2 years ago
Yep, the trains used to cross at Bungaree station and then the loop was constructed to cater for bigger trains. There is a toilet stop on the freeway next to where the loop was.
