After walking for hours through Nanluoguxiang Hutong, it was a few more hot blocks to Houhai Lake where we completely petered out and plopped down to rest. A very long walk back to the Days Inn Forbidden City because a taxi would have been impossible. We're talking serious gridlock here...with the Forbidden City, Prince Gong's residence and more tourists sights on the way back. I wish I had a Yuan for every huge tour bus blocking the streets.
Consolation arrived in the form of dinner with Cindy and Tracy, our tour arrangers from Shanghai Far East Expeditions, at the Marriott Hotel. Cindy has managed to come up with good guides, drivers and unusual destinations for over 10 years with the advantage that Shanghai Far East is located in...duh...Shanghai. She is always "Cindy on the spot." Tomorrow, it would be into the Khampa area on the eastern Tibetan Plateau. Can't wait...
