The new album from Tinariwen, a group of contemporary Touareg musicians from northern Africa, is out August 30, 2011, and features contributions from US artists Kyp Malone and Tunde Adebimpe of TV on the Radio and Nels Cline from Wilco. Here's a taste of that new record, courtesy of the band and Epitaph records, via BoingBoing.net.

  • Hey there wonderful Tinariwen I'm Berbere from Tizi wezzou Algeria , NYC love you music guys keep going great

  • They sing in Amazigh an old Bereber lenguage, it'a so awesome.

  • Una maravilla de disco

  • I am from Mali and the group members are from the North, so I don't actually understand what they are singing lol...But it is great!

  • bono, thank goodness you still have a fan base because the causes you support are really righteous but after joshua tree i feel you all lost your footing and earned too much money, you seem to have lost your roots and what you were singing for. to begin with..unless it was just after all for ego and fame...I certaintly hope this band with its profound history doesn't sell out to stadium rock

  • @TheLonelyImmortal Most of their videos feature Tourareg women... also not accustomed to being kept indoors by their masters. This is, after all, the culture what traditionally requires MEN to wear veils, not women. This particular album was recorded in Algeria, not their native Mali, so you don't get to see the beautiful Touareg women in the video. Pity.

  • @martinbuzora Oh you're right. At 0:55 there's a white woman. Probably not a local accustomed to being kept indoors by her master.

  • @TheLonelyImmortal You did not look thoroughly enough.

  • @TheLonelyImmortal Not on these songs, but look up their videos for "Lulla" and "Chet Boghassa".

  • I did not see any women. I wonder why.
