Wireform sculptures are brought to life by the simplest electric motor in the world, the homopolar motor.

There are only three parts to the homopolar motor...a battery, a magnet, and a piece of wire!
The wire in this case is the sculpture.

Each sculpture begins with a spiral of wire at the tail, and ends with a spiral of the same wire, around the battery.

Working by the principle of the Lorentz Force, the coil of wire around the battery and magnet rotates and vibrates at the same time. This action creates a realistic visual and auditory experience from these electromagnetic life-forms.

The dragonfly is an ancient symbol of good news and a promising future. The butterfly represents transformational change in all cultures.

From my original music, this tune I call "Bacchantes".

Magnets can be bought at K&J Magnetics:

  • @acidjzaz

For the song, "Baccantes" and other original music by mrfixitrick, see my iDisk Public Folder. On a Mac, my iDisk can be accessed with "mrfixitrick", no password required. (Click on "Go" menu/ iDisk /Other user's Public Folder) Windows users, look up "How to access Mac iDisk"

  • @utubegirlx

The music is "Baccantes", a live track I put together with a synth. It's available on my iDisk at mrfixitrick, along with more of my eccentric tunes. E-mail me if you have trouble accessing it.
