An audio-visual tribute to the men and women of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army - Ukrayinska Povstanska Armiya (UPA) - Українська Повстанська Армія.
From their formation in 1942 until well into the 1950's, UPA fought for Ukrainian independence and waged battle on three fronts against Russian, German and Polish armed forces. No mean feat you might think particularly as they did so completely on their own and without any outside support.
65 years on and popular claims as to their military achievements, bravery, steadfastness and fervour, are finally being upheld by probably the least likely of all sources - Soviet NKVD archives.
Documentation which the UPA was obviously never meant to see and which certainly when it was being put together was never expected to see the light of day, reveals unequivocally that UPA were much more than just a force to be reckoned with. They were an idealistic, disciplined and well-trained army that fought for what to them was the noblest of causes.
However, despite these recent revelations, it would be fair to say that the UPA story still remains relatively unknown and untold both inside and outside Ukraine.
Here's hoping that what you will see and hear in this tribute prompts you to want to know more about these unsung Ukrainian heroes and in so doing you will help to spread a message truly worth spreading.
