Philmont Closing Campfire 2005 Historical Video

July 2005: at the closing campfire, they showed a video collage of many Philmont scenes. They then followed that video by reading a letter to a Scout's grandfather who had been at Philmont years ago. They then showed this video of Waite Phillips and his friends and the original Philturn camp of 1941. There are numerous scenes of Waite and friends touring the Southwest (Devils Tower, Yellowstone).

Just watched this film last week. Hard to believe 2 weeks can go that fast. Having served my country and rucked all over Ft. Bragg and Ft. Benning, this time I actually got to enjoy the whole moment without looking for OPFOR, and of course not looking for Tangos like I did three years ago. Very glad to have shared the time with my son. Thank you Lord, Waite Phillips, and the BSA.

Ooo-rah! I've gone 3 times with my 2 sons and will go a 4th time in 2 weeks, could be my last? Never did anything like this with my Dad. Quality time to the max. Roger that on having a good time minus the bad guys. Nice to know there aren't any VC in the tall grass, that's my generation! Nice to hear from you.

I've seen it twice and it is touching. Do you know the name of the song being played?

The song is called "October Sky," from the movie soundtrack of the same name October Sky about some kids launching their own rocket. The soundtrack CD is very hard to get and prices seem to be over $60!!

Philmont was the highest accomplishment of my scouting career, next to earning Eagle Scout. I will always value that once in a lifetime experience and I can only hope that I will have another opportunity to return again. Philmont 2009: 710C - Rescue, CA

Remember watching this at the end of my trek in 2008. 624-D9 was our trek. This trip was a life changing experience and I'm honored to have been given the opportunity to do it all again with my brother this upcoming summer!
