and I have seen first hand what happens when a Smart is plowed into by another car (T-boned). The smart owner was uninjured, the driver of the Mitsubishi Spyder convertable ( who caused the accident) was pretty banged up, including a nasty cut on her face. I'm not hear to make this case and win you over. Just asking that you be realistic. The smart is not the only small car on the streets in the US. All Drivers need to pay attention. but the auto market is changing dramatically. You'll see.
But I do know that I could not afford to drive my Truck every day any more and needed something inexpensive and very good on fuel. So I bought the smart. It IS, I repeat IS the safest car in its class and safer than ANY American made car in the compact class. When (if) Ford/GM/Chrysler. I am confident that the days of the SUV/Mamoth sized vehicles will not be the mainstay of their line up any longer. Those days are gone.
point made and taken. However in a country where EXCESS has brought it to its knees. I'm just one step ahead of the game. I happen to own also a 3 ton Dodge Ram QuadCab with enough power to drag my smart all over town. Also there is a Ford Focus xz5 and a Chevrolet Cavalier. I'm NOT a bias car owner. Having also owned Oldmobiles, VW's both cars and vans, and spanned years from 1965 to present. I know about safety and I also know about practicality. I am not a tree hugger or an environmentalist
yes but i agree dude im not putting the smart car sown just saying in a country were cars are quite large in size just wouldnt be realy safe as in europe
so if a concrete truck were heading down the road with 3 yards of mix and hit the caddy escalade full of homies with pretty gold grills head on, everything would be ok?
What an unusual comparison. Hey Clinker - what is the mortality rate of Motorcyclists to accidents. Compare that to the motality rate of any automobile that is safety rated at the same level as the smart. Oh and do me a favor. Let me know how well ANY passanger vehicle ever did against a 3 to 4 ton vehicle. Be realistic when you claim any type of vehicle is unsafe.
Hi, well I get a great "spread" when it comes to MPG's depending on how I drive and if I am running my AC full blast. Anything from 38 to 50+ mpg. This car is great! 2 comfy seats, more room than any Miata or Boxter and a million smiles to the gallon haha.
The first rally! We have come a long way since this event.
