Black From Islam: African American Women Defectors from Islam TRAILER .mov

During the heat of Black Nationalism in the 1970's, African Americans converted in droves to Islam. Black From Islam identifies the historical routes African Americans have taken to Islam in America despite the slavery bonded dogma of Christianity. It closely examines the cultural differences of how Americans live as Muslims in America through the experiences of three American women. Communities like the Muslims of the Americas are highly reclusive. They live as large families on private compounds or buildings. They practice polygamy and home-school their children, they arrange their daughters marriages. This way of life, virtually foreign to most American teens, is a reality for some American girls who grow-up Islamic. Black From Islam takes an intimate look at non-secular, Muslim-American communities through the triumphs and tragedies of the women who left them.

Seems to me that Layla does not know the difference between Islam and Nation of Islam. She probably doesn't even know that Muslims consider the Nation of Islam to be a heretical cult! The fact Pamela Geller (the woman who is mocked and laughed at in academic circles for saying she became an expert on Islam after reading three anti-Muslim books after 9/11) mentions this video on her website just shows what an epic failure this movie most probably will be!

What I don't know all about the NOI, Sunni's, Sufi's, al-Fuqra's, etc.., will be supplemented by a Harvard University Prof. This is a film featuring African American women defectors from the 5 sects of Islam practiced by Black Americans in the USA. But thank you so much for saying my film will be EPIC!!!!! Better than non-existent :o))

I'm sorry you experienced that, Nation of Islam is actually not Islam. That being said perhaps you could change the title of your film to Black from Nation of Islam. Their ideology is actually more astray than the Christian ideology from the perspective of real Muslims. They are not considered Muslims and do not know/practice the fundamental pillars of Islam. they just adopted the namesake and a few arabic words
