@ Walkerrun;

Well placed 2 extremes fallacy. I don't swallow the alarmist and unsubstantiated drivel that Dr. Lustig is spouting off, therefore I must be from the corn industry. Hint: You will lose money if you make that bet. I don't recommend people drink much coke - if at all. The reason, however is because it contains empty calories that most people can't afford and it causes dental carries.

@ thereasanother1;

I suspect that most of the Lustig followers aren't interested in a balanced opinion. They seem more interested in a someone with good public speaking skills and a nice tie. Seriously, though - couldn't agree more - if you want a balanced opinion - check out Alan Aragon's blog. He just put the final nail in Lustig's coffin today.

For all you sheep who want to swallow this information unquestioningly, All you have to do is read Alan Aragon's blog post, then read the discussion afterward. He puts the smackdown BIG TIME. Lustig gets owned repeatedly.

Just keep drinking coke every day. I'd bet money
that mike has some link to the corn industry.

Just to update all of you who are on the fructose-is-toxic-because-some -doctor-who-gives-good-speeche s-says-so bandwagon; Dr. Lustig did in fact respond to Alan Aragon on his blog (google alan aragon blog to check it out). He tries to justify his Japanese don't eat fructose claim and... get's obliterated again but better evidence.

@ beardedpua - Again, Lustig's public speaking acumen has nothing to do with the actual quality of the content he is presenting. Do you believe every politician that is a good speaker? You make my point for me when you say "fructose COINCIDED with obesity". This is what's called a "post hoc ergo propter hoc" fallacy - AFTER this does not mean BECAUSE of this. There are many confounders other than HFCS that have changed in the past 30 years - calories being very notable.
