Bare feet may not be an option if you are trying to promote a hygienic atmosphere for your clients. It's one thing if it's just your gym, but who knows if someone might drop sharp things out of a pocket to step on. Shoes make sense. That said, I guess if you want to suggest converse that's fine, I can't really tell the difference between all this stuff. Maybe lacing things up is annoying?
Still, good point in that It is good not to wear shoes with padded soles. Pavel Tsatsouline says this. But, still, there are other options than queerbate slippers. One could just wear no shoes or wear skate type shoes (very thin sole - allows feel) or as Pavel recommends: Converse allstars (or the equivilent)
Slippers like that help to maintain the sense of touch and balance. If you think you're better then do it by lifting more. What do you call it when someone tries to assert manliness on the basis of fashion?

I like using dumbbells as a counterweight, it lets me squat deeper without falling backwards. This guy looks like John Cena!
