The Mk 26 Spitfire is an eighty per cent scale replica of the real thing. The kit is Australian and can run a variety of engines. This one uses a six-cylinder Franklin. Having completed a year's flying in Perth, Western Australia, it now flies from Perth, Scotland.

Cost is generally the biggest determining factor.

  • Why go 80% why not just got the other 20% and have done with it, is it an engine issue as to why this is not the case, there is even a 90% on here, is it a copy right issue not to go 100%

    Sounds nice :]

  • I observed the exhaust system during construction. The plumbing is rather convoluted and intended to direct the outflow of each cylinder to the visible exhaust stubs.

These are outlets on collectors down both sides of the aircraft to render as faithfully as possible from a six cylinder engine, the sound of one with twelve cylinders. He did very well I think.

  • they make a model of this kit plane with a chevy V8 in it.. sounds almost as good as the merlin. look it up you wont be dissapointed

  • Ya know if you could gear down a bigger 3-blade prop to the Franklin motor it would be very close in scale noise. The Franklins exhaust system makes it sound pretty close to a Merlin, however the noisy prop just makes it sound like a Bonanza or Cessna 210!!

  • I've seen it all now lol.

  • aw crap i wish id know about that i live a few miles down the road from there
