This interview is so revealing! Mme Zeani is such a wise woman, knowing how to face the reality of life with resposibility and clarity of principles. Moreover, she is so kind and generous person, unwilling to take money from poor but talented students. What a great artist and a formidable lady!

It is so true what she is saying about the bootleg recordings of her live performances. Their much more true with all those rumours and noises and imperfections than an opera "construit dans un studio".
And her opinion about being paid by her students is so noble.
This woman is from another world.

Zeani's speaking voice is remarkably similar to her singing voice!
Zeani could not record with Decca at the time her contract with Decca required, because she was about to give birth to her son. It seems Decca had problems (?) understanding that, and they claimed she had broken the contract (altho she agreed to sing at a later date).
This is, in large part, why we must appreciate and treasure the few, pirated, surreptitiously made recordings. Were it not for these, we would have none at all!!

She talks about how she become a teacher at the University, and one of the most memorable things she said, is that she doesn't like to give private lessons and to take money from a student, who prabably has a nice voice, but doesn't have money to pay her. Now my comment: She doesn't like to be paid for giving singing lessons, because she is a true artist, and money are making the life of many artist miserable.

These interview postings are a real treasure, and her speaking voice in french seems as beautiful as her singing voice. Merci beaucoup.
