The timing of the Backstroke arms should be dictated by the rolling of the shoulders whilst at the same time ensuring the head stays stationary and facing the ceiling.

  • 100 meter back time: 54.72 seconds

  • @Racswimming Excellent time - good job! Thanks for the viewing and comment.

  • Thanks for watching and the feedback. Ideally your arm should enter the water with little finger entry first. So at some point there will need to be a rotation of the hand from leaving the water (usually with thumb pointing to the ceiling) to entry point (little finger enters first) in order to achieve this. Hope this helps and good luck!

  • Difficult to comment without seeing the stroke but sometimes I have clients that say the same thing even though they are rolling the shoulders. Equally I have PT clients that have clicking shoulders when doing a pec flye in the gym. It might just be down to your own shoulders and how they respond to rotation? Might be worth mentioning to a physio if you're really concerned or if it is painful at all. Thanks for watching the clips. Mark

  • @markdurnford just pointing this out-- and im not trying to be a dick-- (and im by no means a pro) but it kind of looks like you're slapping the water with the backs of your hands.

  • When lifting your arm through the air should your thumb be pointing to the sky or should your little finger be pointing to the sky? Thanks, very useful clip!

  • Why does my shoulders make those clicking sound when I rotate them?
