@Argie87 simple man the (shit) was the sole of life !! go to catalonia and you will see Shit there means to firtilize the ground for the trees and logs to grow (catalonia is agricultural area). in reverse trees (logs) give humen the (shit) back in terms of gifts.
in the end it is all sympolic and I see this as a good way of celebrating and giving kids gifts in which they think they need to do good so the log will give them (shit for them) good gifts.

Seems that this video has some more interest lately due to comment I read... To stop all kind of guessings...
The Caga Tió is a very old Catalan tradition and formerly consisted in a log that brought sweet candy and baking after kids hit the log with a stick while singing the song.
Nowaddays the Caga Tió also brings presents and gifts.
It's a very nice tradition that our kids still love.

@Argie87 it's just a way of talk... adults put the presents under a blanket and kids discover those gifts after the song. That's it.
