hi it never is enough but some is better than nonethankyou j

Really liked this particular piece. I've been having a hard time with carving so this is helpful and rather inspirational to say the least.

awesome. thanks man.

i just leave it raw and the residual glaze that is leftover from wipeing clean actualy gives the raw bit an almost soda fired look ,a slight sheen thats not so over poweringly glossy(a very light soda firing anyway) ill see if i can find one of my pieces i did that way and post it soon

high fires will run out of the cracks, and that could be fun too.

I dn't have patience enough for test tiles! LOL. I'm not too attaced to the piece, so life will go on if I ruin it. I can always make another one. Or I could divide this piece into sections and use this as the test piece.
Thanks for showing us the finished piece. It looks great!

Oh I REALLY like this! The pattern is so bold, I think my preference would be for something more subtle than the oxide - like a very light transparent blue or green glaze that would break and pool. or just glaze the inside and leave the outside raw. Which porcelain did you use - and what does the fired clay look like? Ive used porcelain that almost self glazes (Coleman, cone 10) and then Ive used others that really need a glaze (Daves, also cone 10)
if it look good plain, I say leave it raw.

NICE! carving is the way to go i say...if you have the patience... a technique i use to show off the carving is to dip the piece in glaze then wipe clean with a damp spunge the "relief" leaving only the glaze inside the cracks of the actual carving... makes a nice effect..keep the vids comming
