I am still extraordinarily shakey and so thrilled -- I have been asked to be an ambassador for HH The Dalai Lama and have been invited to luncheon with him on Friday. When I was approached, I blubbed like a baby quite spontaneously as I was pretty overwhelmed. I've never aspired to this, or even hoped, I just simply admire him and have found deep inspiration in his exhortations on compassion, pacifism, kindness & patience -- which I first hear in 1996. A lot of my aid work in Africa, Balkans and Australia was predicated on these principles and they also taught me to look beyond my own angst (following the kidnap of the children). I'm not Buddhist, but am simply humbled by this honour.
In my role, I was asked to speak about the effect his teachings have had on me as an individual so here if the first snippet from an interview which will air on Thursday evening.
Here is a Channel 7 news promo for Thursday night. 9 June 2011, 6pm

The Teachings and His Talks Always have something for us to learn, his ideas are universal and wished more people particularly those in Civil / Public service would listen to. Thanks for being Ambassador Jacqueline.
