  • I leave the hips on but then I don't live in an area with severe winters. You only have to cover the rose bush if the rose is not hardy for your area. A lot of roses are hardy to zone 5 and even zone 4 and there is little point in covering them. Some times people will trim them down a bit so the wind doesn't break the canes but you don't have to.

If you have more questions come visit us on our rose forum. You can access it via our website posted on our You Tube Home Page

  • Generally when the hips turn orange in fall. We have a forum when you can post that question. I know some people there have planted rose seeds. paulzimmermanrosescom/forum

  • we want to see the technique, not your lecture

  • @mithunghoshtutun. I don't quite understand your comment. The technique for what specifically? If technique for caring for roses there are 20 plus videos that cover specifics and you can find those on our channel.

  • Basal break (near the base) not basil break :-)

  • I want to grow edible roses to use rose petals for Indian desserts and drinks. Any advice. Are all roses edible? thank you.

  • when u leave the hip on u leave it on for the entire winter? I have heard about trimming it down and covering the bush for the winter so if you leave the hip on do u still have to cover the base of the rose bush? especially if there is snow on the ground or do u just leave the entire thing?does the same concept apply to mini roses as well?deadheading mini roses do u cut it right under the hip of old head or do u cut above the 5 leave?do u use the same process if u just want a rose off ur plant?

  • Thank you very much for this!

  • Wish I had found these a few weeks ago...great source of info...but made me late for work :) Question for you...When would the seeds in the hips be mature enough to plant...or how long do I leave the hips intact before extracting seeds? The nursery that I shop at will not appreciate the answer I'm sure.

  • Thanks for you video series they are great, well presented and they have a world of information.

  • Thankyou for filling me in on these terms. I enjoy your videos and I think I like roses and growing them as much as you do. I live on the west coast in Vancouver. I would like to see more info as if I was a novice and I guess I am. I have a climber with big rosehips. So now I know. thanks I appreciate what you are doing. thanks again

Yes, it's a good time to upgrade. My new Sony Cybershot also takes HD video. It's a compact, cost a fraction of my older video camera and the quality is brilliant. Only thing I miss is a viewfinder but I didn't have the budget for a "bridge" camera! Thanks again for the great videos!
