Its a short and sweet episode today, well short and oozing in macabre imagery would be more accurate. Haxan is an odd subject for a Rainbow Reel, but regardless today's film is part documentary and part...something. Certainly its an oddity in the realm of cinema but hey, as well as learning about hell and witches in a completely educational format, I also found out that the devil has really hairy nipples. Who would have thought?

  • I picked this one up not long ago and damn, it has grown to become a favourite of mine. Its amazing what things they could do back then, the scenes where they show the witches sabbath are just incredibly creepy, as well as the very first segment as well.

Great review as always, love your picks!

  • @Worminfestedovaries Yeah, I was really surprised about Haxan. Do you know anything about William Burroughs narrated version of Haxan. I can see it there now under similar videos. Might be kind of cool to check out.

  • This movie aired on TCM here in America on late-night. I tried to watch it, but couldn't get into it. I fell asleep. I have to give it another go. It has some awesome visuals.

I recall that in the 80's they set the old silent sci-fi film "Metropolis" to modern music (modern as of 1984) like Pat Benatar, Freddie Mercury and Loverboy . Someone set "Haxan" to Slayer!

  • @johnnyhorror92182 I know theres a Jazz soundtrack to Haxan, narrated by William Burroughs but yeah, metal and Haxan just seem to go together perfectly. If I ever get round to recording a nice doom metal song, definitely setting it to Haxan!

  • @RainbowReelcinema Hm, no, I have not seen that one.

I picked up a dvd-version a while back, but it was all silent (had music of course), but no narration whatsoever.

I might have to look into the one narrated by William Burroughs.
