The project intends to develop new interaction methods for a multi-user human-computer system. The sponsor of this project wanted more effective, intuitive and cost-effective ways to work with petroleum technical data in their virtual reality program. The result of the project is a system where the user interacts with the computer on a screen with infrared pointers. The software tracks the pointers from images transferred from a high definition camera located behind the screen. The resulting system offers high performance and accuracy, though further improvements are necessary to make the system commercial attractive. However, this project shows that interaction methods only available on small scale, such as Apple iPhone's multi-touch, now can be realized on big screens.
