The ancient Mayans believed that their King Pacal was such an important king that his memory would still be celebrated in the equivalent of our year 4772. And so they DID NOT believe the modern calendar view. Our calendar ends every December 31 and then rolls over to the next year. A calendar end does not equate to the end of the world only the end of a period of time or the end of an age. The Bible also speaks of the end of an age (aion) that would befall that generation back then..
