  • Yes I agree, the Original was about hope & faith. I always saw the show as a sci-fi re-make of the journey of Moses (Adama) leading his people from the Egyptians (Cylons). The creator of the series was real careful to keep little tie ins with our own Greek, roman, and other mythologies.

  • Actually Brink383 is right. Battlestar came out after Star Wars, because the creator's of the series told that they got the idea for the name Battlestar from star War's Death Star.

  • This was when television was awesome! Every night something that was truely ..FUN!The first Galactica was just the best!No fighting about it!This was like magic to me!I mean, every kid in school, every kid, watched this show! You would hear kid's talking about this show the next day in school!I just am crazy for the opening theme music! And Patrick Mcnee doing that awesome opening voice over...,please!That was so neat! Lorne Green,Dirk Benedict,Richard Hatch and all the other's on the same show? WOW

  • Yes I too found the show quite inspiring. especially since as a child I never felt I truly belonged here, that I was left here on earth by mistake. SO the original series helped inspire me to go on, to learn, because maybe one day those brothers of man will reach us here on earth and they may need our help.

  • The original Galactica is the best!!!!

  • I'm Sorry I haven't replied sooner. Yes I to found this show the best sci-fi show ever. Thats why I posted the original opening so no one will forget. I personally loved how the creators & writers were very careful to incorporate peices of our own (greek, Roman, Egyptian) mythologies & history into the series. I personally believe the original idea for the series came from the bible. Moses AKA ADAMA leading his people from Egypt/Rome AKA the cylons. To the promised land of Earth.

  • In my opinion personally, this is perhaps THE GREATEST sci-fi intro of any sci-fi show in America...the music is simply INCREDIBLE and a ALL-TIME CLASSIC!! I enjoyed watching this show as a kid, and my favorite character on the show was Adama played by the ICON Lorne Greene...GREAT Show, and my favorite episode by far was the Kobol episode...loved it!! This music is simply AWESOME and AMAZING to listen to...GREAT show, and I sure wished that ABC never cancelled it...it was a great show to watch.

  • The original was awesome,,, i use to watch this as a kid,,, loved it so much

  • It would be awesome if these ships made it to Earth with Picard's USS Enterprise escorting them in. I found much of Galactica 1980 to be apocryphal and child-like to be taken seriously.

  • Glen Larson came up with the idea for Galactica in the 60s. It was called Adam's Ark. He couldn't get the networks interested until Star Wars came out and it did borrow a little from Star Wars, but to call it a rip off would be like saying Bonanza was a rip-off of Gunsmoke. Also, the name battlestar wasn't derived from Deathstar. A battlestar is a military honor awarded to US naval vessels. The USS Alabama, for example, earned eight battlestars during WWII

  • @DaveMail42

You put fifty-thousand strangers on a bunch of random ships after having your whole civilization wiped out by things that you built.

Also: The original BSG was a cash-in imo, the remake was in a league of its own

Yes I'm the asshole who replaced your top rated comment in the other video too

  • OMG YES!!!!!!!! THIS IS HOW BSG SHOULD BE!!!!!!!! I absolutely ADORED this show as a kid and would literally cry if I wasn't allowed to watch it....... and yes I'm female! My favourite character was Starbuck followed closely by Apollo...... they were the definition of hero's in my book. And as someone mentioned previously, THIS version of BSG, in my mind followed some of the teachings in the Bible (not that I'm a hugely religious person) and also the Greek Mythology that SG1 later followed up =)

  • Actually, the name battlestar came from a medal awarded to American ships. The USS Alabama, for example, earned nine battlestars during her service in WW2. And what could possible sounde cooler than THE BATTLESTAR GALACTICA?

  • The theme music was grand and sweeping, the stories were full of hope and good, clean characters and the special effects were, for the time, exciting and sophisticated.

The remake featured an opening theme more suited for a funeral, flawed, self-absorbed characters who bickered amongst themselves constantly and a never-ending mood of depression that hung like a wet blanket over every episode.

It amply demonstrated that just because you can remake something, doesn't mean you should. :)

  • This was Awsome. I loved watching this on Sunday nights. The fact that it only lasted one season is really too bad. It was like getting a Star Wars fix every Sunday.Regardless of weather or not it pre dated Star Wars for me its' resemblence to and inspiration from Star Wars is why I watched it. The Space ship fights the cylons the laser guns all very cool stuff to a young kid. Also at the time these were pretty sophisticated special effects
