  • Sad to say, but if a new-release film included an overture today, the theatre would have emptied before it was half-finished.

It was unbelievable. Some movies are a true EXPERIENCE when you see them on the big screen. I'd already seen Ben-Hur near 20 times before then, but it was like seeing it for the first time, brand new. I got chills when the Overture came on.

My theater had a classic showing twice every Monday for a year, I really lucked out. Sadly they don't do it anymore. :( Not enough ticket sales I guess. It was generally full of the same 15-25 people everytime I went.

  • @TheClassics4me You lucky bastard. It's in my bucket list to see this on the big screen. Bet the chariot race was something...

  • Though I'm no fan of classical music, this piece speaks to me. It says, "make sure your kidneys have been emptied and you've got the popcorn, because you're on for one king-hell movie".

Outstanding score. It must have really been something to see this in a theater back in '59.

  • @30firebirds Yeah what a shame ;-(

  • It was a treat to finally see this in a theater setting a year ago. My local theater had it showing for a day. Fantastic!
