  • Interesting video. I went to several years of the Runoffs around that time. I remember the idiot ambulance drivers, too.

  • Were there any injuries in the GT1 wreck?

    That was scarry

  • Minor issue...

This was at the 1984 Runoffs. I was there in '83, and missed them in "84 (I had a crew pass) because my son was born that week.

  • Great old video from Road Atlanta. "33" was Paul Newman, and "38" was the late great Jim Fitgerald. I was also at the SCCA Runoffs for that famous turn 6 incident where almost the entire GT1 field went off into the woods. At 2:03 on the video, spelled the end of Ken Slagle's very fast yellow Triumph TR-8 as it sailed into the woods in the rain.

  • I was at that race and was standing in the pit lane watching the gt race when the rain came down at the far end and only a few cars came back to the pit area. What a horrible race. My father was racing in the formula c race.

  • Oops, 33 was P.Newman. Fitz ran #32.

  • All are Rd Atlanta. First was shot from the "outfield", left of T10, up to T11. Slow Z car (#33 w/hood over windshield) was Jim Fitzgerald (P.Newman's partner).

Second is the FAMOUS Turn Six "AW SHIT" (which can be heard in the clip), circa 1985. Speaking to people who were working THIS incident & seeing the clip of this particular incident at Crash & Burn School is one of the reasons my wife & I began our 19 continuous years of annual Run-Offs working (starting in 1986).

The last is of Turn 1

  • John: rumor has it this is vintage 1983.

  • Awesome.....I was there for all of those....Many many years ago....At first, I thought tis would be Gordon Jolley footage....Still, brings back many memories.
