Is that 171k on stock HG/Torque?
-
Yeah that sounds like rod knock to me...
-
sounds like valve lash, these don't have hydraulic lifters. so they wear out, put a 5m in there it'll solve the problem ;)
-
idk if u ever figured it out but to me that sounds like a rod knock. check out my supra. mines a little more drasatic then that but its very similar
-
sounds like a pully/belt/fan to me
only hits under load when the engine is being forced upward
maybe even engine mounts, you mentioned many miles on the motor, try new mounts.
-
sounds like a rod bearing man, mine does the same thing, especially if you have coolant in the oil, that will dry out the bearings
-
sounds like maybe the water pump, but the bearing makes more sense.

Well, the old motor is long gone and was replaced with JDM 7mgte. She runs great.
On the old motor, we pulled the oil pan off it had 2 spun bearings. Also, the crank pulley keyway was destroyed. Not sure how that happened.

Yea, Michael that water pump might also be playing a part. Looks like the motor will have to be pulled come summer since it's now using coolant too(BHG) lol.

I have a 5vz that has a knock/tick. Low load conditions the ticking sound would pop up, during load you couldn't hear it. It sounds close to this, i could rev it and only at certain points could you hear it. Like when i began to let off throttle. I easily found which rod it was by dropping the oil pan and wiggling each rod, until i found one with slight play. I rolled in new bearings it fixed the sound for a month. The Crankshaft is generally junk from being hammered on.

Funny you mention the 5vz. My Tacoma 5vz, has 220k miles and has a tiny tick along with a small exhaust manifold leak. Don't think the valve lash was ever ajusted on the Taco and Mk3. But, the Supra only has a 171k miles.
