Ah, sorry genete. You know me from my recent IRC #synfig visit. The problem was the default version of synfig for Ubuntu Gutsy is an older release that only accepts sif.
Apparently there is a gzip algorithm to compress the output files to sifz now (which interestingly can be unzipped with gunzip). Now that I got the newer version from dooglus, all resolved.

Could you upload a copy of the sif file unzipped for people to try? Although I use Linux, most obviously don't. So they're not gonna know how to extract the file.
Or perhaps you could put it in a standard zip file.

Hi Sepero1,
the file link in the "About this video" section (the sifz one) can be directly loaded into Synfig. You don't need to unzip it to load to Synfig.
Also the wiki page has another copy of the tutorial result file.
