An estimated 65,000 closeted gay service members are currently serving in the U.S. military. And a few of them, together with photographer Jeff Sheng, are leaving that closet door ajar as part of Sheng's project "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," a portrait series of military personnel affected by the law banning homosexual men and women from serving openly in the U.S. military.

  • God bless our gay and lesbian warriors!

  • Virginian Patrick Henry:

A standing army we shall have, also, to execute the execrable commands of tyranny; and how are you to punish them? Will you order them to be punished? Who shall obey these orders? Will your mace-bearer be a match for a disciplined regiment?

  • @mtfune Times are BETTER than they were when I was a teenager back in the 1980's and even after I was out back in the early 1990's, I came to another fork in the road and it was like, Now what?? Well, you have to CONSTANTLY learn and educate yourself as well as other folks in HIGHER places about the way things are. It ALL has to do with educating folks about the real facts and earning respect- BEING HONEST with yourself, GOD and everyone you meet.

  • Think baby steps and when it is time for you to "come out" and you have proven to yourself and to the world that you are a good and decent person, and that love comes in many forms, you have to educate people that homosexuality, just like hetrosexuality is NOT always about the act of having sex- It defines you and me and all of us as human beings and our direct connection to GOD and the rest of the universe.

  • 65.000 gays/lesbians : discriminated ! Unbelievable and 10.000 military guys/ladies discharged through don't ask don't tell.
