That poor woman had an abusive childhood, so her mental troubles stemmed from that. She refused to leave the bathroom out of fear. Basically an extreme version of Agoraphobia. Her leg muscles had atrophied, which is why in the very end she couldn't get up.

Hey Candie, I would've thought it was an urban legend had I not heard about it from you...I looked it up in the news and the parametics said her skin has actually grown around the toilet seat. So sad.
