American Original Jazz-Band: Say Mister! Have You Met Rosie's Sister?
Beka 33831 (Mx. No.: Be 5538)
Berlin, January 4, 1927
Vocal by Rex Allen
What appeared as "American Original Jazz-Band" on Beka, and "Clive Williams Original Jazzband" on Odeon was actually a Dajos Béla studio unit. For these especially "hot" recordings the Dajos Bela band was completely modified. Personnel includes:
Dajos Béla (ld, v); Howard O. McFarlane (tp); Kai Michelsen (tb); Kurt Arlt (cl, ts, bs); Wolf Gradis, Joe Alex (as, cl); Rex Allen (p, voc); Eduard Feige (tu); Leon Collier (d);

  • I think these musiciens listend very good to Harry Reser's band. He has nearly the same arrangement and the solo's, exept the banjo solo are very simular.

  • Now that you suspect Dajos of copying Reser, I also became aware of the striking resemblance. Especially the Six Jumping Jacks on Brunswick sound almost the same. If I didn't know this record, and the vocal was by a voice somewhat closer to Tom Stacks, I bet I would offhandedly identify it as a Reser recording. But at that time, almost all German Dance bands copied the US bands. Mitja Nikisch and George Boulanger were among the few exceptions.
